Notes:

  • The "Robots" line is for when/if your website is submited through a submission agency into search engine databases and/or a search engine came to your website via a link on another it was spidering (gathering information from).
  • Other meta tags that may be useful to you include:
    • REVISIT-AFTER: Tells search engines when they can revisit (i.e. "1 week" or "31 days"). This doesn't really guarantee anything in terms of them listening though.
    • DISTRIBUTION: The Distribution Meta Tag is used to tell search engines whether the page is global or locally oriented. Options obviously include "Global" or "Local"
    • LANGUAGE: Tells search engines what language your site is in. This only helps for when users select a language preference in their searches.
    • COPYRIGHT: Allows you toinclude your copyright information & indicates that your material is copyrighted
    • AUTHOR: Used to insert the name of the webmaster/designer or company (i.e. Your name or your company's name)
    • EXPIRES: Used to tell search engines when the page & content is no longer valid
